The Pentagon is seeking to stock up on tactical missiles such as Tomahawks in its proposed $842 billion budget for the 2024 fiscal year.
Of the $30.6 billion allocated for munitions, $17.1 billion will go towards purchasing tactical missiles, with the aim of increasing procurement and improving the capability of hypersonic and subsonic weapons.
The budget also includes $7.3 billion for strategic missiles and $5.6 billion for new ammunition.
The Deputy Defense Secretary Kathleen Hicks stated that the latest budget expands capacity and procures the maximum amount of munitions that are most relevant for deterring and prevailing over aggression, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region.
The Air Force is planning to purchase 27 Long-Range Anti-Ship Missiles (LRASMs), while the Navy plans to purchase 91 for fiscal year 2024.
